Welcome to Ellachka.com!

I am Eleonora, and I could not be more delighted to have you here! My about page is a living document. I update it all the time as my memories come up.

My Story

My age number is climbing daily, but my mind says I'm only 24, I dress young, and I feel young and no one cares anyway :-)

I am a mom of 3 beautiful boys – 20, 6, and 3 years old. In my 9-5 world I am a full-time web developer/programmer. For many years it has been my dream to launch a personal website. I finally made time and decided to go for it. I initially launched ellachka.com over 10 years ago, but took it down since I didnt have a clear plan on what I warned to do the site. Then time slipped away when I had 2 more kids.

I have a life beyond nine to five and I try to keep it interesting which I would like to share with you on my blog. I once brought my son to work when he was just a year old, and a non-techie co-worker made a comment, saying that it was hard to believe I have a normal home life. I do admit, I’m a little geeky, it probably stems from the fact I was an only child, growing up with my mom and my grandmother. I was the one to assemble and fix things, which got me into geeky boy things such as programming, and especially since I was fascinated by the web. I got into computers and web stuff in 1999, when the internet was in its infancy. My programming knowledge really expanded since then.

I consider myself a multitasker, and possibly have ADD. I have many hobbies, passions, and interests besides programming. I'm a very spiritual person. I have been on a spiritual path for over a decade. I occasionally squeeze in some DIY projects which I am going to share moving forward. I tend to start a project due to some inspiration or an “AHA!” moment, then I need to really push myself to complete it. My goal is to bring my ideas to life. My kids keep me busy too, and we all manage. I always say, life is too short to spend on just one or two things, and one of them being a mom. I have had many hardships which I might share. As the saying goes, “If it doesn’t kill you, it makes you stronger”. I definitely think I’m stronger after my life’s lessons.

Not Just a Food Blog

In in the 90s, (when I was just 16 or 17 years old), I watched Oprah after school. It seemed like it was the only thing to watch at the time. I remember one day when Oprah featured her personal cook on the show, whose name was Rosie. Rosie released a book which I later bought - In the Kitchen with Rosie, and after cooking a few recipes, my culinary passion began.

When I was then 18 years old I had the pleasure of running a small restaurant at The Russian & Turkish Baths with my mom in Miami Beach. I loved it there, and the people I met and friends I made were unforgettable. We created an impressive menu for every meal of the day as well as a superb fresh juice and smoothie bar. I had a lot of fun!

After 2 full months I felt that I needed to escape. I literally couldn't pull 16 hour 7 days a week anymore. It was too much commitment for a young 18 year old.

We parted with the restaurant scene, but the passion for food was engraved into my blood forever.

The Geek

In 1999, when I was pregnant with my oldest son, my grandmother introduced me to a friend of hers. He was a computer guy who said you can make money online. I asked him how, and he responded, "in many ways". That sparked my idea mind. My interest and fascination grew bigger. I learned to build a website out of HTML. I started programing an online encyclopedia of vitamins, health ailments, and treatments, but after scanning 1800 pages of content without permission, I decided to stop before I got into trouble for violating copyright laws.

I decided I didn't really know anything and it was time for me to get real training in programming. There was a lot I didn't know and was hungry to learn.

And then...

I spent the past 20 years trying different ventures. I failed and continued working as a full-time programmer. I hopped around a lot, mostly due to unstable employers in south Florida. In 2008 I became a real estate agent, what a perfect choice in a collapsing economy, lol. I even bred Maine Coon Cats, with the most beautiful features which I bought from Poland or Amsterdam and had them shipped to me.

Thats Teddy on the right. I had the privilege of cat sitting him for a couple of weeks while his parents went on a 2 week cruise.

Now what, you might ask?

I love my job and it pays the bills, but as an individual I think I can be better than just a nine to five drone. I have been hoarding domain names for as long as I have been into programming. I just started brewing some of them in my kettle. I am hoping to release them into the wild one by one. It’s challenging because I have a job, a young family, some ADD, and some burning DIY projects at home which really need to get done. I started and am poking at tasks and progressing daily.

But here, on ellachka.com my true goal is to Spread some love an inspiration to my readers to pursue their dreams.

I'm an avid reader. I'm constantly listening or reading new books, sometimes even several books at a time. I will share what I'm into and provide a book review.
